Policing at Notting Hill Carnival was successful but there remain flashpoints (in particular at the end of the final day). Having been present and witnessed some of these difficulties at first hand, I can confirm that there is general agreement that the MPS handled them well, and that earlier intelligence-led operations and planning decisions had a very positive impact, but is there anything further that can be done to try and prevent the Monday problems?

  • YouGov/Taxpayers' Alliance Poll

    • Reference: 2007/2490
    • Question by: Damian Hockney
    • Meeting date: 17 October 2007
The Mayor's response to the YouGov/Taxpayers' Alliance Poll findings which showed declining support amongst Londoners for the Olympics was that the Taxpayers' Alliance is "a dodgy organisation" that "no reputable polling organisation would have taken on". YouGov complies with the same Code of Practice as his preferred pollster, Ipsos MORI. When YouGov conducted a similar poll on the Olympics some years ago, it found support for the Olympics and the Mayor was happy to quote it. At what point does the Mayor consider that YouGov became "disreputable"? Is YouGov still one of the twenty service providers to the GLA Group's...

There is widespread agreement that London City Airport is vital to the economy of the City and must not be under threat of closure. Now that Crossrail is to proceed, can the Mayor end the uncertainty he created over London City Airport when he stated in a reply to us (MQT 2379/2006) that "any expansion [of City Airport], which is likely in the run up to the Olympics, should not prejudice an overall review of the airport's role following the construction of Crossrail."
