    Kit Malthouse AM: Mr Mayor, you referred to the very valuable work that is being done with the CST around security for the Jewish community, but you will also be aware that in France in particular there have been some horrific revenge attacks on the Muslim community with hand grenades thrown into mosques, shootings and all this kind of stuff. I wondered whether similar work had been done in London. I know a number of mosques have received hate mail and death threats.

    Kit Malthouse AM: I wanted to ask specifically about Tooley Street. As a fellow cyclist, you will know that the road surface is appalling, the management of pedestrian crossings is terrible, there are buses, cars and lights everywhere and it is chaos.

    Kit Malthouse AM: I hesitate to repeat the meeting, but it was one or two Mayor’s Question Times ago when exactly the same questions were asked by asking exactly the same question. Given this is meant to be a cross-party campaign and a national one, would you find it interesting, Mr Mayor, to know how many letters, telephone calls and meetings Assembly Member Knight has held with employers, trying to urge them to participate in the Living Wage, either in his role as a London-wide Assembly Member or as a local councillor?

    Kit Malthouse AM: I just wanted to raise the issue of Wormwood Scrubs with you. You helpfully wrote to me yesterday ‑ following quite a lot of emails from alarmed residents of that area who have an interest in the Scrubs ‑ outlining the Mayor’s commitment to protecting it. However, could you just explain to us, if there are no designs on the Scrubs as such, why does it need to be included in the boundary of the MDC?

    Anyway, just another specialist unit, you mentioned dangerous dogs and I wondered, given the pressures that you are going to be under, whether you will be able to maintain or indeed increase your activity around dangerous dogs, not least because my perception is the problem is not going away?

    OK, the other area I wanted to ask you about was the horse, the mounted units, an area I know that is close to your heart. There has been some research recently about the effectiveness of mounted police officers, both in visibility and in terms of enforcement. In effectiveness, I do not know if you have seen the hilarious video of a motorcyclist just on London Wall, I think doing a wheelie, being stopped by a mounted police officer very effectively and dealt with. What are the plans for the mounted units going forward?

    Then I just wanted to clarify the situation on Westminster and police stations, since Murad [Qureshi] raised it. My understanding is that Westminster will be like a Belgravia, West End Central and Paddington Green, is that right? Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe QPM (Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis): Sorry? Kit Malthouse AM: The City of Westminster will have three stations in the plan, which is Belgravia, West End Central and Paddington Green, will remain.

    Sir Bernard, in your long and distinguished career, has there been any crime type, the statistics of which have followed a linear progression, either up or down, or has it always been two steps forward, one step back?
