  • Car Free Day (Supplementary) [15]

    • Question by: Louise Bloom
    • Meeting date: 17 October 2001
Going back to co-ordination, I think that Car Free Day this year was on the same day as Open House Weekend. Perhaps you would like to start by making sure that they each know about the other.
  • Car Free Day (Supplementary) [16]

    • Question by: Louise Bloom
    • Meeting date: 17 October 2001
That is very good news. As has been said, there were a lot of people there this year, but perhaps it did not reach out to as many people as it could have done, and many probably were not aware that it was happening. It would be good if we could look at creating a greater impact on people. I am sure - unlike some of those at the opposite end of the table, who are totally wedded to their cars - that it would attract a lot of support.
  • Consistency of Strategies

    • Reference: 2001/0195-1
    • Question by: Louise Bloom
    • Meeting date: 10 October 2001
Towards a London Plan is a notoriously central London-centric strategy. The economic development strategy, on the other hand, has the foresight to look to develop London's subregions and town centres. Does this mean that the two strategies will be working against each other? .

  • Social Firms

    • Reference: 2001/0196-1
    • Question by: Louise Bloom
    • Meeting date: 10 October 2001
The Economic Development Strategy's support of social firms is extremely welcome. However, none of the measures outlined in the strategy will make an impact on the sector in anything like the immediate future. Can not more be done to aid a sector that is likely to be particularly vulnerable to the anticipated economic downturn? .
  • Out Dated Working Practices (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Louise Bloom
    • Meeting date: 10 October 2001
I wanted to pick up on the working practices matters that have already been raised and make two points really, the first of which is I think that maybe some people don't actually realise how tied in we are to the national agreements on these workings practices. Do you feel that the Fire Executive at the LGA is the best way to pursue some of the frankly dodgy practices that are around? Are other fire authorities making similar moves through the LGA, perhaps you could tell us? It amazes me how the fire service has this down the line division...
