Sir Bernard, I welcome the comments that were reported about your views on fitness standards within the MPS and policing in general. As someone who has to take an annual fitness test for the Reserve Forces twice a year, which I still find quite amusing, I welcome those. I would like to get some idea. Seeing as the headline of the question was “2016 achievements”, I would like to explore some of the things that you feel you are still looking to achieve by 2016, particularly in southeast London, which is the area that I represent. Obviously one of your very high profile transport achievements is the timely introduction of a New Bus for London. I would like to know when we will see more of the elegant and benign transport mode south of the river, particularly southeast London.

I am very supportive of your aspiration to take greater control of the Southeastern Overground rail network because quite obviously, just on the nearby quick trip to New Cross, you can see the massive improvement in services coming through that part of the London Overground line. Actually, one of the things that I am also very keen to explore is the opportunities for greater integration of different public transport modes in southeast London. At the moment, my constituents are disproportionately reliant on heavy rail and I would certainly be keen for you to explore greater integration with Docklands Light Railway...

Thank you, Chair. I want to return, if you do not mind, to the greater involvement with surface rail. I am going to focus particularly on my constituents and the rail routes that run through that, but I think these are probably applicable to others as well. Acting Commissioner, the feedback I have had from a number of police officers of various ranks with regard to public order policing over the last 18 months is that there is an atmosphere of 'damned if you do, damned if you don't'. Mr Coleman, you touched on it just at the end of your answer to Tony Arbour's question about the bulk purchasing power. Can we be assured that the prices in the Look Book will be no more expensive because we don't have a brilliant track record of monopoly suppliers giving best value to purchasers? Can we ensure we fully utilise our joint purchasing power to ensure those prices are not going to be any higher than would be normally available on the commercial market?
