The Swaminarayan School, the only independent Hindu school in Europe, will close its doors by 2020, it was announced this week. I know the Akshar Educational Trust, which runs the school has said that it was proving difficult to "recruit and retain teachers''. However, many parents have contacted me to express their concerns. Parents have been given one year's notice to find an alternative school. I understand the Department for Education is in talks with Avanti Trust, which runs state-funded Hindu schools, to open a new school elsewhere in the borough of Brent.
