  • Cuts to Policing (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 03 June 2015
My first question is to Sir Bernard. Sir Bernard, I have quite a lot of information and so bear with me. On 22 May an article was published by The Guardian from Alex Stewart, an ex-police officer from Hackney, who had been awarded the MPS’s highest prize for a recruit in training. He has now left the force due to, as he says, disillusionment with the MPS following the previous rounds of cuts. He gave a stark account of the lack of morale and the huge strain that is on local policing teams at the moment. His comments are backed...
  • Cuts to Policing (Supplementary) [8]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 03 June 2015
Thank you, Chair. My question is to the Mayor and comes back to TfL property strategy, which Richard Tracey and the Commissioner’s exchange alluded to quite extensively. It showed that the Commissioner had some understanding of the costs and benefits of managing MOPAC’s property assets. I want to know, Mr Mayor. To what extent are you conscious of the benefits of outright sales now or incurring an income from some of the assets the MPS and MOPAC still has in the property portfolio.
  • Meeting London’s Current and Future Policing Needs (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Murad Qureshi
    • Meeting date: 09 December 2014
Could I ask a few questions now on front desks and contact points? We have seen the closure of three police stations in the residential part of Westminster, that is, north of Oxford Street. That is, the Howe Road in Paddington, Marylebone Station in Seymour Street and St John’s Wood Police Station in New Court Road. Why has there been no front desk replacements, Mr Mayor? Could I ask the Commissioner, has the MPS forgotten that people actually live in Westminster?

  • Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) (2)

    • Reference: 2014/1276
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 March 2014
Given the Government's recent announcement that in April 2014 it will become common practice for NHS Hospitals to record data on FGM, what plans does the Metropolitan Police Service have to ensure this data is used to inform policy and practice when trying to catch and prosecute the perpetrators of FGM?
  • Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) (3)

    • Reference: 2014/1277
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 March 2014
Please can I have details on the specific work that the Metropolitan Police Service has done working in collaboration with organisations and individuals who campaign against FGM, such as FORWARD, Daughters of Even, the Victoria Climbié Foundation and Leyla Hussein, as well as any others?
  • Water Cannon (1)

    • Reference: 2014/1278
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 March 2014
Giving the Metropolitan Police Service the powers to use water cannon will lead us further towards a state where policing is carried out by fear, not by co-operation. The more fear there is amongst citizens, the more likely we'll see further riots in the future. Will you, before it is too late, review the plans to put water cannons on the streets of London and stop the unnecessary purchase of these cannons?
  • Water Cannon (2)

    • Reference: 2014/1279
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 March 2014
Please can I have a copy of the Equality Impact Assessment that has been done to supplement your policy to roll out water cannon on the streets of London?
  • Police Roadshows (1)

    • Reference: 2014/1280
    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 05 March 2014
I welcome the roadshows that members of the Metropolitan Police Service are currently carrying out across London. They provide an opportunity for local residents to meet directly with policy makers, which can serve to increase democratic accountability. My one concern is that these roadshows are a token gesture and a simple public relations exercise. What are you doing to ensure that these engagements are meaningful and their outcomes will help shape policy and decision making in the future?
