    • Meeting date: 07 September 2011
What representations has the Chairman made to the Mayor about the use of LFEPA's large financial reserves?
  • LIFE Scheme (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 07 September 2011
Can I echo James Cleverly's remarks from our side in terms of the support and praise to the whole service during the course of the recent events. Chair, if I can deal with that aspect first - the first part of James' [Cleverly] question - then move on to mine specifically in a moment. The Chairman referred to the Enfield Sony depot fire, but can I ask the Commissioner, given the references in the previous questioning - that I know you heard - to the fires in Tottenham and in Croydon on Monday night and the iconic image of fires...
  • Future Activities

    • Reference: 2010/0201-1
    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2010
What agreement has been reached about the future of activities which are currently undertaken by the LDA, once the LDA becomes part of the GLA?
  • Climate change (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2010
I did not hear the commitment around staffing that I was looking for. Could you agree to shift the language both sides from the orderly wind-down language to the language of rapid transfer? Simon, can you commit to look at the resources that we have available here - whether it is reserves or whether it is a media freeze on activity here - that is a lesser priority than some of the services that we are at risk of losing? What was a prize that, after a decade we would finally get this all together, we are turning to going...
  • London's fire stations

    • Reference: 2010/0104-1
    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2010
During your periods in post as Chair and Commissioner respectively, will any London fire station be permanently closed or have its opening hours restricted?
  • Cuts (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2010
I want to return to the question of closures when we get to my question. I want, here, to focus on this question of budgetary matters. Firstly, could I ask the Commissioner to confirm the advice given in the finance paper on Monday that, on the level of reserves, the exposure for medium and high risk are assessed at a minimum level of £10.9 million? So a figure of £10 million or £11 million is the officer advice about the minimum level of reserves?
  • Key Priorities (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 13 January 2010
I just wanted to carry on a point that Len has already picked up around the spending against priorities because, at our Budget and Performance Committee last week, of which I am a Member, we heard, exactly as you have confirmed this morning, that you have some underspends from this year that you are taking as part of your funding package for next year. I cannot remember the number. I just simply want to put some numbers on these things so can you just remind me, was is about £16 million? What is the amount of underspend from this year...
  • LDA Funding for Academies (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 18 March 2009
I think there would be huge scepticism on all sides of this Chamber and outside this Chamber that the LDA should be getting into funding secondary education. Mr Rogers, you started your answer by saying, 'I believe in the academy system.' Bluntly, what you believe or otherwise is of relevance to your advice to the Board, and I noted you did not answer the question. The question was, 'Has the Board yet considered whether funding secondary education is compatible with focusing on the LDA's core mission?' So can I ask the Chair of the Board to give us the Board...
  • Budget Savings (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
    • Meeting date: 03 December 2008
I am tempted to ask, in keeping with the Lynne Featherstone callout question, which budget paid for the 21 gun salute that greeted your attendance here this morning that we were enjoying while you were going on! The serious point, Chairman, is that - as you yourself said - there is no one party with overall control of the Authority and, therefore, these important matters of financing of the emergency services should be a matter of proper discussion and dialogue between the parties. You have made it clear that you personally do not want to follow the Mayor's guidance, which...
