Can I echo James Cleverly's remarks from our side in terms of the support and praise to the whole service during the course of the recent events. During your periods in post as Chair and Commissioner respectively, will any London fire station be permanently closed or have its opening hours restricted?

I want to return to the question of closures when we get to my question. I want, here, to focus on this question of budgetary matters. Firstly, could I ask the Commissioner to confirm the advice given in the finance paper on Monday that, on the level of reserves, the exposure for medium and high risk are assessed at a minimum level of £10.9 million? So a figure of £10 million or £11 million is the officer advice about the minimum level of reserves?

I am tempted to ask, in keeping with the Lynne Featherstone callout question, which budget paid for the 21 gun salute that greeted your attendance here this morning that we were enjoying while you were going on! The serious point, Chairman, is that - as you yourself said - there is no one party with overall control of the Authority and, therefore, these important matters of financing of the emergency services should be a matter of proper discussion and dialogue between the parties. Indeed. That is showing up in the home safety checks which I think have risen from around 9,000 a couple of years ago to approximately 20,000 in the year that has just ended and the target for the current year is approximately 30,000. Even if you add all that up, that is 40,000-50,000 home safety checks. One or two per cent of Londoners have had a home safety check. Should we not be looking for a real huge step forward in this area?

I have to say that I am surprised to see this question here, and it can only have come here because the Chair of the Authority has chosen to brief her colleagues on this. This matter is being debated, I thought, through the Chair's Coordinating Group which is normally a confidential body while options are discussed.
