  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Len Duvall AM: My question is for [Dr] Stephen King, it concerns the London Infrastructure Framework. You have recently released a report that calls on London to develop a central infrastructure development and delivery centre of expertise. What role would the GLA play in that? What is your thinking?
  • Question & Answer Session: London's Long-Term Infrastructure Needs (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 08 June 2023
Len Duvall AM: Thank you very much. Thank you for the way that you answered those previous questions. It is very enlightening for everyone around this table, whatever party they belong to. Also, I want to thank you for the work that you have done on your commission. It is a very important role that you have in advising and influencing the nation’s infrastructure debate. It is important for the future given - as you said - the background scenario about money and the challenges we face. It was a reality check, really. You visited this building back in January...
  • Economic Recovery in London (Supplementary) [15]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 23 July 2020
Len Duvall AM: Thank you very much, Chair. The proof and the outcome of the work of the London Recovery Board is that by this autumn there should be some practical actions that make a real difference to try to minimise the economic downturn. In all the hours that I have just been listening through, no one seems to have mentioned that we already have a LEAP. I am not sure what the London Recovery Board adds to the work of that. Can you tell me: what is the difference in roles? Is there a risk of overlap and duplication...
  • Leveson Inquiry (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 20 December 2012
There are the Leveson recommendations and then there are things that the police can do over and above Leveson themselves. If we go to the heart of the issues of investigating the rich and powerful, the checks and balances on judgement calls. From the original investigation of limiting to the few - not going in and looking at the wider evidence but it sits there in a room or whatever - to other issues of when you do the recall are the checks and balances internally and judgement calls about investigating issues. Is there something more that the police can...
  • Leveson Inquiry (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 20 December 2012
Can we look at the MOPAC role now? My question is directly to Stephen. There are two questions and thank you. I think you have provided the Committee with some correspondence from the previous questions around this issue. Can you just explain to us how the MOPAC plans to oversee the Metropolitan Police Service implementation of the Leveson recommendations will work? I understand there was an Audit Committee yesterday. Can you also then demonstrate how yours and the Mayor's relationships with the press will be transparent? That was an item that I think you alluded to in the correspondence that...
  • Drug Intervention Programme (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 20 December 2012
I just want to clarify a bit on that transparency process, and it goes a bit back to some earlier answers you gave on the future of community safety funding plus the DIP money. OK, not all of it, but some of it is MOPAC's money and I think in your desire for joint commissioning, is it joint decision-making or is the ultimate decision going to be with MOPAC or with the London Crime Reduction Board? What is the line of accountability? Is it ultimately advisory to you, you sign it off, or are you going to share that decision...
  • Project Daedalus (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 20 December 2012
Can we move away from the preplanned operations and some of the specialist operations, and talk to what is available in boroughs in terms of response? Just to get to the bottom of two cars, four officers being added and TSG group already in existence, could you just explain to me, would they only be available to certain boroughs in terms of tasking? Do they get round to all boroughs? They do not stay in one particular borough. I presume on top of that there are existing roving armed response vehicles that are Taser-led, so they could respond to a...
  • Targets (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 25 October 2012
The last MOPAC Challenge in October identified the issues around a very rapid increase in volume of theft from the person in the boroughs. Given the period of time, and it was an annual comparison with the previous year, there has been an explanation, but have you had a chance to drill deeper into why this has occurred in that period of time?
  • Undercover Officers (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 25 October 2012
Very quickly, on the compensation issue of any compensation paid, look, you are making massive cuts to our services here in London. I hope that you are going to recover any monies that have to be paid, if they are paid eventually, from the owner of this or from the Association of Chief Police Officers Terrorism and Allied Matters (ACPO TAM) who were meant to be supervising these officers. I do not think the MPS should be paying for that and I hope it is not going to be further cuts. We need to follow that and MOPAC needs to...
  • Borough Command Units (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 27 September 2012
I have a couple of comments to make first. I was one of those who has not been consulted and I have to say we first learned about this - and I am surprised the Committee has not - some months ago when, clearly, some chosen people were consulted over and above others on the local policing initiative. We are now in a position where the consultation has not really started off well, so do not believe it has because of the mixed messages and almost running into a number of other consultations that will become confused. Really my question...
