  • London and Covid-19 Restrictions (Supplementary) [10]

    • Question by: Tony Devenish
    • Meeting date: 12 January 2021
Tony Devenish AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning. My question is to John Barradell. John, good morning and thank you for all the work you and all your borough teams have been doing with NHS partners, and the rest. It has been incredibly heart-warming to see the amount of work that has been undertaken by everybody across our public services. My question is not directly to do with the public services per se or indeed to do with the medical and economic emergency. I have seen, certainly since last Monday’s lockdown announcement, that morale amongst some Londoners seems to have...
  • London and Covid-19 Restrictions (Supplementary) [11]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 12 January 2021
Léonie Cooper AM (on behalf of Jennette Arnold OBE AM): Thank you very much, Chair. It is quite ironic because Assembly Member Arnold’s question is about digital access, which she clearly does not have this morning at all. I wondered if I could ask John Barradell and possibly Fiona Twycross as well, between you, what the Mayor and local authorities can do to support digital access for Londoners, which has become so important during the pandemic for everybody, from young to old. Can I start with you, John, maybe?
  • London and Covid-19 Restrictions (Supplementary) [14]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 12 January 2021
Len Duvall AM: Thank you very much. My question is to John Barradell. In the first lockdown, it is quite clear that local authorities played a major role, albeit with some mixed messages coming from central Government about what they should be doing or not doing. What is different in the second wave in terms of some of the issues they were performing in getting food and prescriptions to people? You might identify other gaps in support that were taking place in the first lockdown.
  • London and Covid-19 Restrictions (Supplementary) [15]

    • Question by: Leonie Cooper
    • Meeting date: 12 January 2021
Léonie Cooper AM: Thank you, Chair. I would like to address my question to Deputy Mayor, Fiona Twycross and John Barradell. We have covered a lot of ground this morning; lots of different areas that we have looked at. I just wondered if you could set out, for the Assembly, what you believe are the main challenges and the most pressing issues for the SCG going forward? This is a bit of forward look. I know it is quite hard because we are still in the middle of everything at the moment, but it would be great if you could...
  • London Recovery Board and London Transition Board (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Navin Shah
    • Meeting date: 02 July 2020
Navin Shah AM (Chair): Before I move on to supplementary questions, just something which David said in terms of diseases not being over as such. Can I probably pick up with John Barradell as to how London boroughs will implement a local lockdown if required?
  • London Recovery Board and London Transition Board (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Len Duvall OBE
    • Meeting date: 02 July 2020
Len Duvall AM: My question is to John Barradell. John, you are not attending this meeting in your role as Chief Executive of the City of London. You have rather a special role in London. What I do not understand - and I have seen various bits in the press - is why we need a Transition Board. What is the real reason for it? I still do not understand. Did something go wrong in the first wave, or is it just this is the best way forward in terms of dealing with the pandemic in this second phase?
  • London Recovery Board and London Transition Board (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Caroline Russell
    • Meeting date: 02 July 2020
Caroline Russell AM: My first question is also for John Barradell. The Government was criticised as being slow to act in bringing in lockdown measures earlier this year, and right now we are 48 hours from restrictions easing further. At the same time, we have several countries like Germany, Sweden and France which are showing signs of a second wave of cases, and, worryingly, we have the new lockdown in Leicester. The Mayor on Tuesday sensibly asked for clarity from the Government on local lockdown powers for our city. I understand that London does not currently have powers to bring...
  • London Recovery Board and London Transition Board (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: David Kurten
    • Meeting date: 02 July 2020
David Kurten AM: Good morning, everybody. My first question would go to David Bellamy. I think you would be the person to answer this, but if you are not you can pass it on. My question is, what remuneration will the members of the London Transition Board and London Recovery Board be receiving for their service?
  • London Recovery Board and London Transition Board (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Tony Devenish
    • Meeting date: 02 July 2020
Tony Devenish AM: I have two questions, the first one for Mr Bellamy. Good morning, David. Yesterday TfL put out a press release where it boasted that there is an extra 19,000m 2 of space in central London for cycling and walking that has been created over the last few weeks, ie I presume there is 19,000m 2 roughly less road space. I am glad you mentioned the point of Saturday and the good news that the pubs are opening on Saturday. Do you worry, as some people have said to me, that Saturday will be a tipping point, where...
  • London Recovery Board and London Transition Board (Supplementary) [8]

    • Question by: Lord Bailey of Paddington
    • Meeting date: 02 July 2020
Shaun Bailey AM: Can I address my question to John Barradell, please. Good morning, John. It is great to see you. Earlier on you talked about everybody being worried about a second outbreak, and of course that is correct, but what constitutes an outbreak? Is there a pre-planned level where something clicks in? Is it based around R rate? Is it based around fatalities? Does that level exist in the mind of the Committee?
