  • Recycling Rates (Supplementary) [19]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 13 November 2002
It's all very well talking about recycling. That's obviously one part of it, but clearly buying recycled goods is the key thing. And the Green Procurement Code is something that I think we would all welcome. That was launched in March. Can I ask how many boroughs and how many companies have currently signed up to that?

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 13 November 2002
Right, okay, I'm aware of that. How much are you talking to the LDA about future funding, because 2004 is around the corner. SRB runs out. The LDA have made some sort of vague planning and support for it. Are you looking the LDA in the eye and helping to discuss this issue with them?

Which brings me on to - are you happy with the way the LDA is both evaluating that and planning to work with it in future?
  • Implementation and Partnerships (Supplementary) [11]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 13 November 2002
Do you feel that the LDA has got these sort of green industry issues and recycling issues, or use of recyclers, high enough up on its agenda, and is tackling it the way that you, from your perspective, want it to be tackled?
  • Implementation and Partnerships (Supplementary) [12]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 13 November 2002
So you do no evaluation of the success of this project? Do you not even look at the LDA's evaluation?
  • Working Relationships in Progressing Mayoral Strategies (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 14 November 2001
John, just simply as someone who's not dealing with the detail of this every day I thought it was a useful indicator for me as a lay person on these environmental issues to get an indication of that relationship. So happiness is breaking out it seems between the ALG and you, that's great, but what about the Mayor then? We've heard various useful comments from various members about the need for Londoners to have a clarity about the future of waste management, whether it be around recycling, incineration, landfill or whatever. How are you advising the Mayor to take forward...
  • Working Relationships in Progressing Mayoral Strategies (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Meg Hillier
    • Meeting date: 14 November 2001
Given that there's quite a lot of agreement and you highlight that the ALG are very pleased with the waste strategy - well they're complementary about the waste strategy. So would you think it would be a good idea for the Mayor and the ALG to jointly be on a platform and talking to Londoners directly about some of these issues?

So in terms of the waste strategy, will the Mayor and the ALG be sitting down together and presenting the issues to Londoners?
