Mr Mayor, on 25 July there was an item on Crossrail in the private section of the TfL Board, which you chair, as well as the public section. Were any concerns raised? As Simon has outlined, the programme is building up and you are getting concerned. Were any concerns raised there about the possibility of delay in the opening?

Florence Eshalomi AM: Mike, obviously there are still major ambitions in TfL’s finances and the TfL budget in terms of Crossrail 2. TfL has said it will be able to pay for half of Crossrail 2. Do you think this would still be the case, given we are seeing a delay in Crossrail 1?

Caroline Russell AM: OK. I am going to ask Mike now. The status quo on Oxford Street is not OK. We know that urgent attention is needed to deal even with the current overcrowding, let alone with the overcrowding that will come from the new Crossrail passengers. Has TfL done a Healthy Streets check on Oxford Street in its current condition, and if not, will you?

I would like initially to thank you, Commissioner, for ensuring that the borough commanders in my part of London were able to, by having a show of strength, prevent any trouble in any of the boroughs which I represent, and I thank him for that. The question I would like to ask is probably one for Kit. One of the few positive things which has come out of this has been the demonstration that it is possible to cut through the red tape which there habitually is in bringing people to justice. Is not the truth here that there is no planning? This has mushroomed completely out of control. Until we started asking questions you and the Mayor did not know the volume of it. We are told that since we started asking questions he in particular has been amazed at the volume of travelling going on.

One final question. Studying your documents there do not seem to be a vast number of trips being planned, for example, to other Commonwealth countries, with which Britain already has very good relations but could be improved. Is there a particular reason why that is the case?
