    You say it is not an absolute condition but only a year ago the Mayor said, talking about the living wage, and I quote, `That would be the bedrock on which the hiring and employment strategy of all parts of the Olympic family in London will rest'. At that stage the thinking very much seemed to be to make it a clear contractual condition and the QC's advice that the Mayor got with regard to the living wage in terms of GLA contracts was, `I do not consider that the GLA would be acting unlawfully if it gave some weight...

    One of the things the Assembly has been investigating recently is the growing concerns about helicopter noise amongst Londoners. Will there be any additional use of helicopters during the actual period of the Games?

    Will LOCOG require contractors to pay employees working on the Olympics site at least a London Living Wage of £7.05 per hour?

    Picking up on Kate (Green)'s point about more joined-up thinking on targets and so on, in linking with other strategies, in 2003 the GLA Consultation Tackling Poverty in London had a number of recommendations including the commitment to assess GLA policies and strategies for their contribution to poverty reduction and to produce an annual Poverty Monitoring Report on the success of GLA interventions. Can I ask John why these recommendations were not carried out?

    So, the Mayor has new powers now on skills, and we've just heard that he is going to be playing a leading role in that. Can I ask the rest of the panel how you see that making a difference in terms of tackling poverty?
