    The improvement of traffic flows at Purley Cross are linked to the Coulsdon Town Centre improvement scheme. There is a welcome consensus in the Purley locality to see major changes to this A23/A22 interchange that should be built upon. I am pressing the local authority to find resources to progress matters in Purley. Are sufficient resources being made available at TfL on this scheme that the Mayor has supported in our local papers? .

    The majority of residents appear to be supportive of the outline of plans that you are working up for the Coulsdon Town Centre Improvement Scheme/ Coulsdon Inner Relief Road. A related issue to Coulsdon is the traffic arrangements at the next district centre up the A23, namely Purley. When you visited Croydon earlier this year you were able to give encouraging comments about your interest in seeing the environment improved in Purley town centre.     Would it be fair for leading high-quality mini-cab companies in my constituency to be concerned that they are going through the expense of registration but that others will not do so because of the prospects of limited enforcement, thus putting the leading companies at a competitive disadvantage ? .

If useful comparative figures are easily available could I provided also with the same figures for the equivalent bids and allocations under TPP bids to GOL for the years 1998-9 and 1999-2000 ? .

    A constituent reports to me that at the beginning of July the red route lines on Belmont Rise (A217) were repainted. The same constituent advises me that a week later the road was dug up, new tarmac laid and the white and red lines repainted. Are we still encountering significant difficulties co-ordinating work with public utilities on our roads ? .

    In the budget discussions for TfL for 2001/2002 concern was expressed about the standing of TfL's reserves. Please could you detail the most recent information available on TfL's reserves, where TfL's reserves stood at the end of the financial year 2000/2001 and where it is projected reserves will stand at the end of the current financial year. Any commentary on key influences upon these figures would be gratefully received.
