  • Orbirail (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 16 October 2002
On consultation, the fact that most of the infrastructure for Orbirail is in place - it would be a very cheap and efficient scheme to implement - it could give you an easy time as Mayor in terms of the consultation process on that. You would be unlikely to have rooms of rabid car drivers attacking your plans.

How would you answer that: that if by putting Crossrail as your number one transport infrastructure priority, that is potentially taking away money from a whole range of other schemes which, at a local level, could have a far...

  • Opening Statement 13.03.02 (Supplementary) [8]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 13 March 2002
I think everyone accepts that you were conned in the General Election into campaigning for Labour with this non-existent deal that the Government was proposing on PPP, which collapsed straight after the general election. Will you be again conned into putting on a red rosette in the local elections? Because whether it's the fault of Labour councillors or not, the message is, if you go around with a red rosette then it doesn't matter how appalling the Government's behaviour on PPP is, as long as people vote Labour. That's the message that goes out.
  • Questions relating to Crossrail (Supplementary) [9]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 13 March 2002
I totally agree. Do we get a guarantee from you then, that as far as you're concerned you will not support premium fares on Crossrail and you will make that conditional of your support for the whole project?
  • Opening Statement 13.03.02 (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 13 March 2002
The poll tax actually went after a few really damaging, devastating defeats for the Government. The question that I think we want answered is if the Government is pressing ahead with PPP regardless, are you going to go out campaigning for Labour in the May local elections?
