  • Legacy Master plan for the Olympic Park (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
I have a couple of questions and I will start with Manny [Lewis]. You spoke about having achieved over 800 training courses to date in construction. Are you monitoring in terms of diversity ethnicity and location? If you are, can you share that information so that we can be assured that the contract that you have made with the local community and with Londoners that they will be accessing these jobs, especially in the construction industry, is being fulfilled? Second, can you tell me any more about the construction site which I have been championing to get established within Leyton...
  • Tendering for contracts (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 07 December 2005
Chair, could I just come back and say I do want your firm commitment to the extent where, will you inform us if you could utilise the TfL model and I only say that because it is in our legal structure and whenever we look abroad and we are looking to bring stuff back, then it just does not fit as well as something that we have developed. That is the cast-iron assurance that I am seeking.
  • Tendering for contracts (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 07 December 2005
Can I stay with tendering and contracts? Marc talked about Atlanta, so I want to actually direct my question to Manny (Lewis) and Mary Reilly because what I want is absolutely the buying from the both of you. We have got local good practice. Can I just refer you to the TfL terms to their contract? I will just read here that when they sent out invitation to tender for the development of the East London Line, that had within it terms that ensured fair opportunity for smaller suppliers, particularly of those led by BME groups and women, whom we...
  • Olympics (Supplementary) [9]

    • Question by: Andrew Pelling
    • Meeting date: 07 December 2005
The Chief Executive (Manny Lewis) referred to the decision that the management are making, that the Board had in considering these issues. Could you advise me of the expected costs for surveyors and for legal advice for the land acquisition programme?
  • Recent changes at the LDA (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 17 March 2004
Can I just go back to the area of questioning that my colleague touched on about the LDA's support of London's black and minority ethnic communities? Firstly, would you agree with me that sometimes the LDA can be seen to be defensive about the support of this key community? I would like to say to you that there is absolutely no need to be defensive, because it is, if you like, linked to your answer to the last question. These are communities finding themselves in need, but at the same time, they have the skills and the city has the...
  • Skills (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Andrew Pelling
    • Meeting date: 17 March 2004
Is skills training as a responsibility too fractured in London? We share skills training issues with the five different Learning and Skills Councils. Is five LSCs too many for London? Is the compromise of sharing the process of skills training through FRESA and the London Skills Commission, while worthy, in the end probably a false compromise and should the LDA have the prime responsibility for skills training in London?
  • LDA spend (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Andrew Pelling
    • Meeting date: 17 March 2004
We know our place in south London, which is not to get very much money from the LDA. But I reckon under the new leadership of the LDA there is a greater emphasis upon south London and what is being done in Crystal Palace. It was not something that was easy to get across when you go and market the new EDS, because of the limited amount of resources that the LDA has to offer, when you are talking to a south London audience. Our team there was given a fairly rough time. I would like to ask something very...
