Thank you, Sir Ken. I think we would all like to congratulate those success stories that you have just highlighted. Obviously the picture we are getting is that it is a patchy performance across London. Would you agree with that?

    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Thank you very much, Commissioner. I am very delighted to hear that, although I was rather sorry that there was a delay because I can remember at least two years ago when we were in here for a scrutiny session, and you came with your Union Representative and he agreed that there really was no hold up with the Union as to getting this sorted out in London as long as they were not to be sent there instead of an ambulance, to which we, of course, agreed. You have been given £100,000, but none of this has been drawn...

Commissioner, the Metropolitan Police has received some initial funding to help them prepare for the Olympic Games and their resilience thereto. I was never saying the outer Boroughs should continue to have less. What I argued for was that London as a whole should have more which would mean that everybody could enjoy more, rather than some having to then lose some in order for others to gain some. It just seemed to me we were trying to cut the cake smaller. My final point would be, are you aware, Sir Ken, that the residents in the area are continuing to put together new rescue plans, and that right now they say they are talking to the Metropolitan Police about sharing...

So you are not really interested in talking to them about their proposal?
  • Closure of Manchester Square Fire Station (Supplementary) [7]

    • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
The perception of the residents in that area does not fit exactly with what you have been saying. They feel that the cover that they are offered is lacking because the fire engines have to come from further afield. Not only that but one appliance has been lost from Euston. Therefore, it might be a perception which is not borne out by your figures, but nevertheless they do feel that they are at risk, and that the cover has diminished.

It would only work if you were plugged in with it, would it not?
