  • Responding to Flooding (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
On the Thames Gateway development issues, you said you have not specifically commented on the flood risk issue. Could I ask that LFEPA does look at the recommendations from the Assembly's Environment Committee that the plans be rigorously tested?
  • Responding to Flooding (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Even if that is not going to be a statutory function, obviously there is a direct pressure that flood risk places on LFEPA's activities. Should you not be pressing for stronger planning policies to limit new development in high-risk flood areas, and actually really take a key part in this debate about Thames Gateway?
  • Vehicle Replacement

    • Reference: 2003/0319
    • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
Why is there a gap in the "rolling replacement " programme between May 2004 and August 2006 when no new vehicles will be supplied? What assurances can you give that LFEPA will be able to negotiate and accelerate the appliance replacement programme to shorten this 14 month gap with Asset Co? .
  • Southwark Training Centre

    • Reference: 2003/0321
    • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
Bearing in mind the very limited funds available in this year's LFEPA budget for Capital Projects, will you ensure that no decision is taken to begin any further construction work at the Southwark Training centre site and that a full business case including the in-depth analysis of alternative locations is undertaken before the enlarged Breathing Apparatus charging facility is sited at Southwark? .
  • London Underground

    • Reference: 2003/0318
    • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
How many times during the current year (2003/04) have London Underground stations been closed due to unplanned safety checks by LFB personnel? Has there been an increase in emergency (unplanned) fire safety checks compared with 2001/2 and 2002/3? .
  • Initiatives for young and elderly (Supplementary) [13]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
I would really like to welcome the emphasis on prevention and the work that you are doing in this area. You could not give Diana the exact details of the budget. Given that this is a growing area in terms of emphasis, is the overall percentage budget in terms of this prevention work growing?
  • Initiatives for young and elderly (Supplementary) [14]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 12 November 2003
But if you are actually providing equipment to vulnerable people - smoke alarms, etc. " there are budget implications to that. How are you going to overcome some of the political and institutional pressures in terms of this being vital work, but is not particularly glamorous or high-profile? There is always the danger that softer budget issues like this get trimmed.
  • Co-ordination Measures (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Lynne Featherstone
    • Meeting date: 29 January 2003
Obviously this is quite difficult to discuss here, if you haven't got the information in front of you, but my understanding is that there was a serious delay, and, therefore, a confusion around the co-ordination. You have stated you think it is excellent. I would say that given that is my understanding, it was not excellent on that occasion. And I want your assurance that firstly I will get the answers, and secondly that I will be informed of what exactly did happen, and thirdly, that if it is as I say it is, that something will be done about...

    • Meeting date: 29 January 2003
Will you continue to try and push for a negotiated settlement?
  • Modernisation of Fire Service (Supplementary) [6]

    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 29 January 2003
There is a lot of talk about modernisation, but do you think it's very modern for the Deputy Prime Minister to be invoking emergency legislation from the 1940s to impose a pay deal on firefighters?
