I am pleased to see you launch the Openmarkets.london website, which aims to make it easier for traders to access pitches in street markets and covered markets across London. • Removing the bankers’ bonus cap

    • Reference: 2022/3594
    • Question by: Zack Polanski
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2022
The announcement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 23 September about removing the cap on bankers’ bonuses will only widen income inequality in London. How will you and your Deputy Mayor for Business work with big businesses to encourage them to keep bonuses under control so that inequality does not get worse and the dangerous speculation that caused the 2008 financial crisis does not repeat itself?
  • AEB outcomes

    • Reference: 2022/3595
    • Question by: Zack Polanski
    • Meeting date: 13 October 2022
Courses funded by the Adult Education Budget (AEB) are evaluated by how many people attend rather than how many people get into work at the end of the course. This is concerning, especially given that course providers make a profit from the GLA and we want the best long-term outcomes for students and learners, which means getting a job at the end or upskilling for a better career. Will you consider auditing the courses to show which ones help people get into permanent jobs that pay at least the London Living Wage within a specified timescale of completing the course?

Thank you for your answer to my question 2021/4837. Do you consider that funding eight projects for community groups taking over empty shops is providing enough support to local grassroots organisations across the whole of London, and what more could you do to enable communities to take over empty public spaces in their neighbourhoods?

    • Reference: 2022/1825
    • Question by: Zack Polanski
    • Meeting date: 23 June 2022
In the April 2022 publication, Community-Led Recovery Plan for London, Just Space outlined that the participation of local communities in planning activities is often undertaken too late and functions as: “notification in the guise of consultation.” How do you define the difference between consulting with members of a community and notifying them?
  • Non-doms in London

    • Reference: 2022/1302

A report published in April 2022 by Warwick University states that most non-domiciled individuals (‘non-doms’) reside in and around London, representing over a tenth of adults living in Kensington and the Cities of London and Westminster. What are you doing to encourage non-doms to pay UK taxes and thereby contribute to the funding of our public services in London?
