Costs are higher in London and this is a challenge that Government itself faces in directly funding the capital. Be it capital city function funding for the police, the, in my view, vindictive cuts to TfL funding or the recent cuts to university funding, do you believe London is being targeted by the Government for cuts? Is this levelling down London, instead of levelling up the rest of the country, as they promised?

The historic Elephant & Castle Centre is to close on the 24 September, around half of the small independent businesses, about 40 in number, still have no relocation space and are therefore looking at the loss of their livelihoods. Will the Mayor support the Elephant & Castle Relocation Proposal, commissioned by local charity Latin Elephant, in collaboration with Southwark Law Centre and the wider Up the Elephant Campaign? The proposal details how enough stalls could be provided at 3 sites around the Elephant, to accommodate all the stall holders still without alternative premises.
  • Economic Recovery in London (Supplementary) [11]

    • Question by: Andrew Dismore
    • Meeting date: 23 July 2020
Andrew Dismore AM: Thank you, Chair. Georgia, I wanted to ask you about the PPE supply, because the fragility of the PPE supply has been under scrutiny throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, after weeks of dragging its feet and giving mixed messages, the Government has made face coverings mandatory in shops as of tomorrow. In this context, how can our post-COVID economy build in better resilience for essential supplies like PPE?
