I appreciate that you are not accountable for the delivery of NHS services in the capital or for reconfiguration decisions, however Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt announced recently that Central Middlesex hospitals, A&E units that treat life-threatening injuries and illnesses would be replaced by urgent care services for less serious cases from next year, as part of a shakeup of services for about two million people across North-West London. • Summer A&E Crisis

    • Reference: 2013/3926
    • Question by: Onkar Sahota
    • Meeting date: 23 October 2013
Londoners are accustomed to Winter A&E crisis but this year we have even had a Summer A&E crisis. The situation will only get worse in the winter months. Sticky plasters tend to come off in the rain. What powers do you have to protect Londoners from the effect of this, given your work to reduce health inequalities in London?

  • Health impacts of cold homes

    • Reference: 2013/3836
    • Question by: Onkar Sahota
    • Meeting date: 23 October 2013
Living in a cold, damp home leads to a higher risk of poor health outcomes, including cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and mental health problems among all age groups, but also has indirect negative health impacts on children's dexterity and educational attainment. Alarmingly, as Winter approaches, about 560,000 London households are in fuel poverty and take-up of the Government's Green Deal remains low. The ONS said excess winter mortality for 2011/12 was highest in London. What will you be doing this Winter to reduce the negative health impacts for those Londoners living in cold homes?
