    • Reference: 2023/4818
    • Question by: Caroline Russell
    • Meeting date: 21 December 2023
In your answer to my question 2019/20119, you noted you were considering a memorial to the 12,000 Londoners who lost their lives in the Great Smog of 1952, and identified the 70th anniversary in 2022 as the best way to do so. Could you provide me with an update on your plans for any such memorial?
  • Fairness (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Leonie Cooper
    • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
Léonie Cooper AM: Thank you very much, Chair. Thank you, Mr Mayor. I just wanted to focus on this issue about fairness. I wondered if you thought that encouraging employers to pay the London Living Wage, would you say that is fair to try to increase the National Minimum Wage to the London Living Wage, and yet there is someone present in this room who said, “This would be the most damaging to the lowest skilled and lowest paid whose skills and value to the employers do not meet the London Living Wage”?
  • DSEI arms fair at ExCel

    • Reference: 2023/3566
    • Question by: Caroline Russell
    • Meeting date: 14 September 2023
Thank you for your answer to my question 2021/3532 about the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) arms fair, in which you said: “Given the significant opposition that exists and the local disruption this event causes I have written to both ExCel and the event organiser strongly urging them not to hold this event at ExCel in the future.” Could you tell me what response you received from both ExCel and the event organiser, and what further representations have you made to both ExCel and the organiser about not holding this event in London?
  • Question and Answer Session: Refugees in London (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Caroline Russell
    • Meeting date: 07 September 2023
Caroline Russell AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning, everyone. My question is for Enver Solomon. I met recently with the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants in preparation for this plenary. They told me about the experience of a woman who claimed asylum in the UK, was 33 weeks pregnant and living in asylum accommodation near Gatwick. She was being given food that was unsuitable during pregnancy. She complained about the food to the hotel and medical practitioners from her hospital also spoke to hotel managers saying that the food was unsuitable for her and her baby, but no...
  • Question and Answer Session: Refugees in London (Supplementary) [15]

    • Question by: Leonie Cooper
    • Meeting date: 07 September 2023
Léonie Cooper AM: Thank you very much, Chair. I would like to start with a question to Deputy Mayor Tom Copley, if I may. Hi, Tom. Last year, the Mayor said as the Chair of the C40 Cities Group, “One of my priorities is taking urgent action to address the causes and devastating human cost of forced migration created by the climate emergency”. I wondered if you could outline what actions overall the Mayor has taken in London since then?
  • Oral Update to the Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Leonie Cooper
    • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
Léonie Cooper AM: Thank you, Chair. Obviously, our condolences to Assembly Member Bailey on his loss that has prevented him from coming here this morning, but the issues that relate to the video footage and also the invitation that was sent out, talking about jingling and mingling, when mingling was specifically something we were asked not to do, overrides that. There are some really important principles relating to the Nolan Principles of Public Life and showing a better standard of upholding the law amongst people who have been elected. On that basis, I hear what you say about the peerage...

  • Economic Disproportionality

Research by the Social Metrics Commission found that across the UK nearly half of Black/African/Caribbean/ Black British households were in poverty compared to just one in five white families. What action are you taking to address this inequality in London and how are you lobbying the Government to influence relevant policy decisions over which you have no direct remit?
