  • 493 Bus Route

    • Reference: 2002/0925
    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
The new 493 bus route is very welcome. What is not welcome is the size and TfL's instruction to Wandsworth Council that traffic calming put in under the 'Safer Routes to School' initiative will now have to be dug up. This is getting rather ridiculous - there must be buses smaller than the ones now under order by TfL for residential roads which are too narrow to accommodate them. TfL now makes the threat that if this traffic calming is not dug up, that the route will have to be changed. Are TfL concerned to work with communities, or is...
  • Pollards Hill Estate

    • Reference: 2002/0927
    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 20 November 2002
Does TfL plan to introduce any more bus routes to serve the Pollards Hill Estate in Mitcham. The residents of Pollards Hill suffer from access problems and are cut off from many local services, including health services like St George's Hospital, due to the lack of public transport which serves the area. .

    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett

Surely a major city of the size of London has need for more than one heliport. Why have additional locations not been identified in the London Plan? .

    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 23 October 2002
Without a major increase in Public Sector investment, surely the whole London Plan will have to be reconsidered. Can you implement the London Plan without a major increase in Public Sector funding from the Government? .

    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett

  • London Plan

    • Reference: 2002/0659
    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 23 October 2002
The London Plan forecasts a population increase of approximately 700,000, but the implications of the population growth for school places, health service provision, policing and transport have not been quantified. Do you believe that the growth strategy in the plan is achievable/sustainable or even desirable? .
  • London Plan

    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 23 October 2002
The target in the plan of 820 additional dwellings per year in Wandsworth, would require a higher level of development than that which has been achieved since 1997, a period which has seen record levels of house building. The windfall sites available over the last ten years for housing development will not be available again. Does the Mayor not think that a rolling five-year target would be more realistic? .
  • New Covent Garden Market

    • Reference: 2002/0577
    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 18 September 2002
Can you confirm what monitoring has been done, or is due to take place, on the effect of the Congestion Charge on the New Covent Garden Market Authority? There is concern by the traders and the Market Authority that the charge will have an adverse impact on access to the Market, and also to the day to day work of the traders as so many of them have to access customers within the charging zone? Because of the roadworks in Vauxhall Cross, any data that has been collected prior to Congestion Charging on journey times, will be irrelevant. Will you...
  • TfL provisions relating to highway emergencies

    • Reference: 2002/0578
    • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
    • Meeting date: 18 September 2002
Further to the recent mains water burst on the A3/A205 West Hill, Wandsworth, concern has been raised on the time it took to respond to the flooding emergency. The only resource supplied to mitigate the flooding of properties affected by the burst main was sandbags supplied by the local authority, who no longer have maintenance responsibility for this road. It appears that in emergency situations, there is a significant decrease for the residents of Wandsworth in the speed and quality of response than that previously provided by the local authority on Tfl roads. Can you clarify what contractual conditions are...
