  • Tackling gang crime (Supplementary) [3]

    • Question by: Kit Malthouse
    • Meeting date: 22 February 2012
Mr Mayor, I just wanted to explore briefly this notion of police-generated crime. I know you are aware that almost 100% of what is classified as drug crime in the city is police-generated crime in terms of being a result of police action and therefore, presumably, you would welcome a rise in drug crime because that would be an indicator of an increase in police activity.

    • Question by: Kit Malthouse

Mr Mayor, would you agree that when comparing police numbers over a period, it is helpful if you compare like with like, and that therefore when Assembly Member McCartney is comparing the number in 2008 with the number we have now, she has to take into account the change in the training regime. The number in 2008 will have included up to 1,000 trainees who were in the classroom at Hendon rather than out on the street, and that in the intervening year, we have had a change in the training model, which means we no longer have those trainees...

Mr Mayor, notwithstanding the moral obligation to do something about brothels or indeed the criminal activity that needs to be tackled, will you acknowledge that it is deeply unpleasant to live near a brothel and as somebody who lived on a street with a brothel I appreciate the profound gratitude of the residents when the police came and closed it down?

  • 5% fare cut (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Kit Malthouse
    • Meeting date: 12 October 2011
Mr Mayor, one of the characteristics of the TfL budget over the last three years that has been of importance certainly to my residents and I know to the whole of London is that you directed TfL to maintain the funding for the police on the transport network and, indeed, augmented funding for the police over the last three years. Do you think that budget approaching £100 million, more police officers on the transport network, they will have 50 extra British Transport Police, would that be sustainable under a 5% cut?
  • Blackfriars Bridge and the 20mph speed limit (Supplementary) [1]

    • Question by: Kit Malthouse
    • Meeting date: 13 July 2011
Just two issues on this, Mr Mayor. We all welcome the seriousness with which you take road safety but in considering, as part of the work that Jenny has asked you to do, the 20mph zones on bridges presumably you will also be looking at the complexity that this may produce or the, perhaps, unintended affects it may produce either north or south of the bridge. Not least, for instance, on Vauxhall Bridge. I would be very concerned of people accelerating away from a short 20mph zone over the bridge, up Vauxhall Bridge Road or, indeed, either side of the...
