One of my concerns with these terrible, savage, fast cuts to your budget has been that a lot of civilian staff have been lost, close to 4,000 since 2008. Do you know at the moment how many of those posts still exist and are being backfilled by police officers?

Why are you so relaxed about the loss of industrial land in places like Hackney Wick and Fish Island, which has mostly been occupied by viable businesses?

Jenny Jones AM: On this substantive issue, I am very concerned that you are actually releasing too much industrial land because the vacancy rate on industrial land has actually halved in the past 15 years and is now lower than retail vacancies. I am concerned that you are talking about surplus land when, actually, it is not surplus because small businesses still need to be near centres of population and they still need to be near town centres. I just wonder how much research you have done on this.

Jenny Jones AM: Mr Mayor, I wondered if you have had a chance to look at my proposal for a solar photovoltaic delivery unit for London, because it would do a lot of things that you are talking about. Jenny Jones AM: I am starting to look like one of the more polite people around this table, I would like to point out, which has probably surprised us all. Last week I published my report into MPS surveillance practice. In it, I outlined an awful lot of stuff that they do not need to be doing because they are looking at people like environmental activists, anti-racist organisations and so on. Would you consider reviewing that particular practice? You could save a lot of money for the MPS if you just stopped them wasting time on people like me.

Commissioner, could I go back to the conundrum about the future cuts in budgets and the increasing number of officers and, therefore, the increasing percentage that their pay will be. You have already said that pay is a huge percentage of your budget. As you increase offices you are actually brining the point at which it becomes inefficient and you are going to have to backfill officers into support staff roles, eve closer, are you not?
