  • North Circular Road

    • Reference: 2000/0456
    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 20 December 2000
Is the Mayor aware that a proposal to widen the North Circular Road between Bounds Green and Green Lanes would, according to official figures cost £252m (enough to pay for up to 2,200 brand new double decker buses) require the demolition of 280 homes in North London and lead to worse air quality due to more traffic on the A406? Will he, therefore, provide an unambiguous statement that he will not support this new road scheme, but instead give priority to implementing traffic management, road safety, and public transport improvements along this stretch of road? .

Trains carrying hazardous nuclear waste through London are considerably heavier than those carrying commuters. Given that students 18 and over must pay full fares, this must limit their access to London, and may be a disincentive to remain in education. Would the Mayor therefore consider a targeted fare initiative for students?

    • Reference: 2000/0268
    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 18 October 2000
Do you share the view outlined in the "Architect's Journal" of 7 September that the changes in design of the proposed Crystal Palace development, following the replacement of the original architect, Ian Ritchie, represents a "dumbing down" of this already controversial proposal? Do you believe Bromley councillors' approval of these changes on 3 October, despite not knowing what the building's finish will look like or what the impact will be, will only serve to strengthen the degree of opposition to the development amongst local people and confirm the view that Bromley Council has utterly failed to listen to those most...

    • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
    • Meeting date: 18 October 2000
You have made clear your commitment to developing partnership and friendship agreements with major capital cities for the benefit of London, and no one could argue against that. Do you agree that the GLA ought to have similar links in respect of smaller cities in some of the most deprived parts of the world. Especially as many of these cities have for years given their brightest and best to support the growth of London. The Mayor: Jeanette Arnold: The Mayor: .
