  • Jubilee Gardens

    • Reference: 2000/0434
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 20 December 2000
The Mayor will know that Jubilee Gardens is designated Metropolitan Open Land and therefore protected in the Lambeth Development Plan. Can he envisage any circumstances in which he would allow development on this much loved green park?
  • North Circular Road

    • Reference: 2000/0456
    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 20 December 2000
Is the Mayor aware that a proposal to widen the North Circular Road between Bounds Green and Green Lanes would, according to official figures cost £252m (enough to pay for up to 2,200 brand new double decker buses) require the demolition of 280 homes in North London and lead to worse air quality due to more traffic on the A406? Will he, therefore, provide an unambiguous statement that he will not support this new road scheme, but instead give priority to implementing traffic management, road safety, and public transport improvements along this stretch of road? .
  • Nuclear Waste

    • Reference: 2000/0352
    • Question by: Darren Johnson
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2000
Trains carrying hazardous nuclear waste through London are considerably heavier than those carrying commuters. Bearing in mind the three recent train crashes and the impact of the extreme weather conditions on the rail network, will the Mayor write to Sir Alastair Morton, Chairman of the Shadow Strategic Rail Authority to clarify what steps are being taken to protect Londoners from the possibility of a rail accident involving a nuclear shipment?
  • South London Metro Service

    • Reference: 2000/0367
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross

I welcome the plans for a new south London Metro service which will mean that over-ground trains run on a ten minute timetable, greatly improving services currently offered in south London. Can you give some indication of your support for this proposal and how TfL might help facilitate the scheme

    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2000
There are some initial plans submitted from Railtrack for a new station at Camberwell, an area that is currently badly served. Do you agree this is a sensible and practical solution? And what will you do to make sure that Camberwell gets its new station?
  • Tramlink service to Crystal Palace Park

    • Reference: 2000/0369
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2000
I noted in your draft transport strategy that you did not commit to extending the Tramlink service to Crystal Palace Park. Tramlink offers some great opportunities to improve south London travel at a reasonable cost. When will you be able to make firm proposals about the future extension of Tramlink?
  • Cross River Transit

    • Reference: 2000/0370
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2000
I am sure the Mayor would agree that the proposed Cross River Transit, connecting Camden to the Elephant and Castle and Peckham would offer great improvement for south London. When does the Mayor propose to make a firm decision about this service?
  • New Year's Eve

    • Reference: 2000/0403
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2000
    5) I am pleased that the Mayor recognises that the primary issue for the New Year celebrations are about safety, as this concern is certainly shared in Southwark. Can you please share with us what has been done to ensure that: the various agencies involved are well co-ordinated on the evening; there is sufficient public transport for people to move around the city safely, and that any difficulties with crowd build-ups near the river are dealt with quickly?
