Given the concern raised by the Conservative Group over the use of Hyde Park as a "savannah" for the Notting Hill Carnival, will the Mayor confirm that there is no suggestion of diluting Carnival as a street festival, and that the addition of a savannah is to support the safe growth of the event?

I welcome the £1.7 million allocation in the budget for cultural initiatives, as over the last six months, in my role as a member of the Cultural Strategy Group for London, I have identified a number of issues in relation to access for the great majority of Londoners; in particular families with children, elders and Black and Asian Londoners. Can the Mayor confirm that this money will not be used solely to support parades and other one-off annual events, but to facilitate a range of projects across cultural sectors that enable greater access and will leave a legacy for Londoners?

Will the Chair of the Authority join me in welcoming the appointment of a number of officers from ethnic minorities to the higher ranks of the MPS, including the first Asian Assistant Commissioner and the first black Deputy Assistant Commissioner? What steps will the MPA be taking to ensure that the MPS encourages other officers from ethnic minorities to reach their full potential within the force? .
