A group of elderly constituents have complained to me about the proliferation of pushchairs on buses, in that since the introduction of low-floor buses parents and carers have proven reluctant to fold pushchairs even when the space allocated to them is full, making it more difficult for other passengers to pass along the lower deck. Could you update me on the current rules on when a bus drivers should be asking people with pushchairs to fold them before getting on the bus and what measures are in place for drivers to enforce these rules?

It states that 13 of these closures were attributable to defective fire/safety equipment and that this was the largest single cause of attributable closures. Could you give me more detail of the actual reasons for the closure of each of these 13 stations, also stating specifically which stations were affected? What has been done to resolve these defects to reduce the chances of these closures reoccurring?

  • Rail Maintenance

    • Reference: 2004/1374
    • Question by: Roger Evans
    • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
In a written answer from the last Question Time you told me that you were not aware of any formal proposal to close the depot at Temple Mills. However, on page 12 of Montague's Crossrail Review it says of the current Romford depot, `The site is occupied by Balfour Beatty Rail Maintenance Ltd and, although it is currently underused, may become more important in the future for main line rail maintenance following the closure of Temple Mills.' This seems to me to be a clear statement that Temple Mills is due to close. Please could you elaborate on the plans...
