At MQT on 20th October, you said that "you cannot get much beyond what we are expecting people to pay" on Underground fares. TfL's Five Year Plan states that if fares don't rise above inflation, other charges must be raised further to compensate. Does this mean that you plan to raise bus fares further to pay for the Underground, or that you plan to raise the Congestion Charge further, to pay for both?

    • Question by: Jenny Jones

Are you concerned that the number of licensed Private Hire Vehicle drivers is well short of TfL's milestone targets? Apart from making the conditions for driver registration less stringent, have you considered increasing the number of licensing staff as a way of enabling you to meet your 2006 target of fully registering all drivers? Has the number of staff changed significantly since I asked you about this on the 21st May 2003?
