  • Walworth Road Bus Lanes

    • Reference: 2006/2528
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 15 November 2006
Many Walworth residents rely upon bus services on the Walworth Road (which is not a Transport for London red route) and are very worried about proposals to remove the bus lanes. Please could you clarify the origin of these proposals as residents seem to believe that it was a TfL project, however my recollection was that the Council has requested and lobbied for this removal as part of a local 'streets for people' scheme?
  • Complexity of Police Panels and Committees

    • Reference: 2006/0281-1

A number of local councillors and community activists have expressed their concerns about the complexity of police panels and committees. Please could you set out clearly the roles, responsibilities, membership and inter-relationship of a) the Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panels, b) Action (formerly TAZ) committees and c) the Police Community Consultative Groups?
  • Closing Police Stations

    • Reference: 2006/0298-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
I am extremely concerned to hear rumours circulating that the Metropolitan Police plans to close Rotherhithe, Camberwell and East Dulwich police stations within the next few years. Is this the case? And do the MPA and MPS understand the great value that local residents place on their local police stations and that shop fronts open only during business hours would not be an acceptable alternative?
  • Firework Nuisance

    • Reference: 2006/0283-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Informal contact with the police, residents and my own experience tells me that there is far more deliberate violence being perpetrated using fireworks this year. I hear that rockets are frequently being fired out of scaffolding tubes like mortars. Has the time come to seek a total ban on the sale of fireworks to the public? What information can you provide?
  • Taking Reporting Crime Seriously

    • Reference: 2006/0299-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Youth workers in my constituency are reporting that young people do not feel that the police take them seriously when they try to report crime. What work are you doing to measure and increase the satisfaction of young people with the police service?

    • Reference: 2006/0302-1

  • Sector Working Groups

    • Reference: 2006/0303-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
Following the establishment of the Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panels the police in Southwark have disbanded the Police Sector Working Group. Ward boundaries cut through the middle of town centres, such as Camberwell, Peckham and Elephant & Castle and residents are very concerned that without the Sector Working Groups it will be difficult to ensure that policing priorities are properly co-ordinated across these boundaries. How will this issue be addressed?
  • Mini-Motorbikes

    • Reference: 2006/0304-1
    • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
    • Meeting date: 08 November 2006
I recently carried out a survey of residents' views on mini-motorbikes. 62% of respondents considered the bikes a major nuisance. What steps are the police taking to address this growing issue? Do the police need any additional powers to assist them in tackling the problem of illegally ridden bikes? Would the police support a ban on the sale of mini-motorbikes?
