  • Question and Answer Session: London Fire Commissioner and Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Hina Bokhari
    • Meeting date: 09 February 2023
Thank you. I just want to start by recognising that the Fire Commissioner’s openness and honesty has been really appreciated by all of us in the wake of the Culture Review and the acceptance that you have given the 23 recommendations by Nazir Afzal [OBE, Chair, Independent Review into Culture of London Fire Brigade]. You also publicly apologised to Jaden Francois-Esprit’s mum, Linda, out there at the last FREP Committee meeting on Tuesday. However, Linda has said that she still feels that no one has been held accountable for Jaden’s death, and that the full extent of the trauma that...
  • Question and Answer Session: Policing (Supplementary) [2]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 01 December 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair. Commissioner, my question is to you. Trust and confidence in the MPS in London is a key issue currently. How are you working to restore the trust of all Londoners? I appreciate that you have partially answered this question in response to the question from the Chair, but can you be more specific and give some examples, especially with regard to regaining the trust of Black Londoners, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Londoners, women Londoners, etcetera ?
  • Question and Answer Session: Policing (Supplementary) [17]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 01 December 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair, and my question is to both of you. Earlier this year, it was reported that of the 32 terror plots that have been found since 2017, 18 were Islamist-related, whilst 12 were motivated by a far-right ideology, an example of which we saw was the attack on the migrant centre in Dover last month. How is City Hall and the police service in London working with partners to understand and tackle the reasons why people are motivated to commit such acts? Mr Mayor.
  • Question and Answer Session: Proposed Revision to the Mayor of London's Transport Strategy (Supplementary) [5]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 17 November 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair. You were asked earlier, by Assembly Member McCartney, about public transport in outer London. Mr Mayor, the frequent closures of the District Line at weekends for essential works causes a lot of inconvenience for residents in my constituency, especially Barking and Dagenham. The information I have had from TfL does not address my concerns, and this has been going on for some years. The frequent closure of Dagenham Heathway because of leaking roofs, and with the recent weather and the rains, means that the station is quite often shut. If we are to encourage...
  • Question and Answer Session: Legacy of the 2012 London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (Supplementary) [10]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 06 October 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair. Good afternoon, panel. My question is about the demands of policing mega events and it is to you, Lyn. The policing operation for the Olympics was huge and a success. However, one of the problems with policing mega events, as a Government report made clear in 2020, is the coordination between multiple agencies. With the current and anticipated increasing footfall in the Stratford area with the ABBA [Voyage] Arena and the proposed MSG Sphere, how are you working with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), the British Transport Police (BTP) and other agencies to meet...
  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [9]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning, panel. My question is to you, Michelle. What are the current skills gaps facing London and how will the AEB tackle them?
  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [22]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Thank you, Chair. Deputy Mayor, because I used my earlier time allocation to put forward the views of New City College, who are based all over London and do some fantastic work, I have a couple of supplementary questions. One of the things that the Mayor has long called for is the ability for London to have an occupation shortages list. Have you had conversations with the Government about this? Where are the talks? Can you remind us how this would assist London’s skills gap? This is about the occupation shortages list.
  • Adult Education Budget (Supplementary) [4]

    • Question by: Hina Bokhari
    • Meeting date: 08 September 2022
Hina Bokhari AM: Morning. I would like to start off with what value you have added to Londoners by using the Mayor’s delegated powers on adult education over the next year. What will you be adding, value‑wise?
