The other bit that has been raised by Sir Stuart Lipton, [Former Chairman, Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment] with whom I think you have had reasonable relations with in the past, is the concern about the infrastructure, going back to Tony's [Arbour] point, that the plans as currently drafted will create cheap and isolated estates. Now that is not what you want or what we want. What guarantee have you managed to get from Government that we will avoid falling into that pit, which is what has happened in the past?

You will be aware that it is suggested that Judith Armitt felt herself undermined by ministers. In particular that Yvette Cooper ripped up the original draft of the Gateway Plan. In terms of trying to influence franchises, I hope that Transport for London will continue to put pressure for the earliest possible resumption of use of the former Eurostar platforms at Waterloo because it seems quite ludicrous when commuters from right across south London are suffering from inadequacy of capacity that we are paying out public money for these to remain mothballed. It is not your fault, despite the Department having good notice of that, so I hope you will use your leverage there. A number of my constituents have raised grave concerns in relation to the traffic lights installed earlier on this year at the junction of Wickham Road/Orchard Avenue/Hartland Way by Shirley Library. My constituents do not understand why the positioning of the lights, when coming from West Wickham and turning right into Orchard Avenue, has been changed. Serious concerns over safety have been raised as, when cars advance forward and are waiting to turn right, drivers are unable to see any traffic lights (as there are now no backing lights in place).
