  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [10]

    • Question by: Neil Garratt
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Neil Garratt AM: Good morning. You might remember a couple of months ago you had an exchange with my colleague, Assembly Member Fortune, about the poorest Londoners owning cars in which you seemed to be incredulous that they would. Rather than have an exchange with you about that, I thought I would write to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), who very helpfully wrote to me. Its definition of the poorest Londoners, the lowest decile, is those earning, roughly, gross household income less than about £12,000 per year. Of those, the ONS says that about a quarter own cars and...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [11]

    • Question by: Unmesh Desai
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Unmesh Desai AM: Good morning, Mr Mayor and Commissioner. Mr Mayor, how are you working with British Transport Police (BTP) and the Metropolitan Police Service’s Safer Transport Team to fight sexual harassment and misogyny on London’s transport network?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [12]

    • Question by: Peter Fortune
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Peter Fortune AM: Thank you very much, Chair. Commissioner, can I add my congratulations to you as well on your leadership on the completion of the Elizabeth line? It is another feather in the cap of the Train Daddy, so congratulations. I want to focus in on questions about air quality because everybody is very keen to improve it when and how we can and in the most efficient way. Thinking back to the expansion to the North and South Circular [Roads], what work was done beforehand to benchmark or set targets for the amount of air quality improvement that...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [13]

    • Question by: Leonie Cooper
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Léonie Cooper AM: I would like to continue to riff on the theme of the ULEZ and I would like to start with you, Commissioner. I know that we are out to consultation at the moment, so the shape of the scheme is not fully known to us yet, but I am assuming that there are now some discussions in progress with the DfT regarding the proposal to extend into outer London. I just wonder what kind of feedback you have had from the DfT on the plans for expansion. Has it expressed any views?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [14]

    • Question by: Tony Devenish
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Tony Devenish AM: Can I first ask Assembly Member Cooper not to attack people’s children, even if it is the Prime Minister? Mr Commissioner, good morning to you. Tube noise: this morning on the Jubilee line we measured 123 decibels passing Bermondsey. This is not a party-political issue and I do not want to make party-political points on this. We all want this to be sorted. Now, you have almost sorted the Elizabeth line. Are you going to be able to sort Tube noise, and how, please?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [15]

    • Question by: Elly Baker
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Elly Baker AM: Hello again, Mr Mayor. We can all agree that reducing private car use in London would benefit London overall for congestion, air quality and climate reasons. What I am really interested in is how we can sustainably reduce car use and target journeys that can easily be switched to other modes of transport, recognising that some Londoners - whether it will be because of mobility, because of specific work reasons or for caring responsibilities - will find that much more difficult. Your ULEZ consultation says, “[...] it is important that the owners of those remaining vehicles that...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [16]

    • Question by: Susan Hall
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Susan Hall AM: Good morning, gentlemen. Mr Mayor, do you agree with Lisa Nandy [MP] when she says she supports the rail strikes?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [17]

    • Question by: Sakina Sheikh
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Sakina Sheikh AM: Good morning, Commissioner and Mr Mayor. Commissioner, I will start with you. Following on the theme of buses, but hopefully on a more positive note, the TfL Bus Action Plan aims to increase the speed of journeys. What I wanted to hear from you is how do you ensure that this does not adversely affect some groups who need to be given proper time to board buses safely?
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [18]

    • Question by: Emma Best
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Emma Best AM: In 2017, TfL modelling suggested that 135,000 vehicles per day would use the expanded ULEZ and that was the justification for spending £130 million on the expansion. Fast-forward to today - or to November [2021] when we had the last stock of that - and you have 50,000 chargeable vehicles travelling within the expanded zone. That is a little over a third of where the estimated figure came in the forecast. Now, looking ahead to the London-wide expansion, TfL estimates that 87% of vehicles travelling within that zone will be compliant, leaving 13% that are not. There...
  • Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [19]

    • Question by: Anne Clarke
    • Meeting date: 09 June 2022
Anne Clarke AM: We are not often confused, but thank you, Chair. I am just listening to the Conservatives opposite, and I am astonished to hear them calling you rude. What comes across to me is a clear commitment to clean air and I want to thank you for that, for your commitment to it, because the council ward where I live and where I serve is the poorest in Barnet, which is in outer London. It leads to shortened lifespans. We have the poorest air quality and we lost a disproportionate number of our residents to COVID. Thank you...
